We are delighted to share an exciting update from the DARAJA project, sponsored by GIZ and implemented by CCI, as representatives from GIZ recently visited the project sites to assess progress and impact.
During their visit to the CCI offices, GIZ representatives had the opportunity to gain insights into the development and implementation of the DARAJA project since its inception in the Kombo settlement. They engaged with project staff to understand the challenges, successes, and lessons learned, reaffirming GIZ's commitment to supporting initiatives that promote community resilience and disaster preparedness.
Moreover, the visit extended to Kombo Primary School, where the DARAJA project is also making a significant impact. Through engaging drama performances, students showcased how they receive weather information and emphasized its importance in their academic lives. This interactive session demonstrated the integration of weather education in schools and highlighting the holistic approach of the DARAJA project in building weather resilience from a young age.
Venturing into the heart of Kombo settlement, the GIZ representatives witnessed firsthand the progress of the DARAJA project with the forecast team. They observed how weather forecasts are generated, translated into SMS, and disseminated to community members. Additionally, they observed the utilization of weather information boards, where forecasts are displayed for easy access by all residents.
The visit provided a comprehensive overview of how the DARAJA project is positively impacting the entire community of Kombo. Through effective communication channels and innovative approaches, the project is empowering residents to make informed decisions and take proactive measures to mitigate weather-related risks. As partners in resilience, GIZ remains committed to supporting initiatives like DARAJA that contribute to building sustainable and resilient communities.
