For a long time now actors and investors have been using a lot of resources to implement housing, water and sanitation infrastructures. This is because many implementers including government agencies and utilities rely on conventional technologies only which are quite expensive and does not address the challenge of affordability.
Such investments remain an important part of an overall approach to urban sanitation for instance, but should be viewed as an instrument for service delivery, rather than as a solution in their own right. For example there is a risk considering sewerage as the only “proper” form of urban sanitation, where municipal or government officials tend to choose this option even when it is neither technically nor financially viable.
Simplified sewer system is a low cost piped system used to collects all household wastewaters (WC wastes and sullage) in small-diameter pipes laid at fairly flat gradients. It is suitable for existing unplanned low-income areas and new housing estates with a more regular layout. Simplified sewer system offers the best solution of collecting and transporting all the waste waters from informal settlements where the sewer trunks have passed nearby or there is a nearby waste water treatment plant
Trapezoidal blocks are cement sand kind of blocks which have a shape of trapezium used for toilets lining. They are using less cement hence reducing the cost of toilet construction.
Water bottle filled up with sand is an innovation aimed at providing low cost construction of toilets and housing, while contributing to environment management.
