Tanzania Urban Poor Fund (JENGA) is the financial development mechanism developed in 2008 by Tanzania Federation in collaboration with CCI. It is a mechanism that enables urban poor organizations to access finances by building their own capacities.
The aim of the fund is to provide an affordable source of capital to a growing number of the savings schemes living in informal settlements for various livelihood and development activities that cannot be able to access from traditional financial institutions.
The Tanzania Urban Poor Fund (JENGA) provides affordable loans for land acquisition; housing construction and upgrading; income generation activities; infrastructure development such water, sanitation (toilet construction, pit emptying devices, public toilets, and solid waste management). The source of capital for the funds is from the community savings as well as grants/ soft loans from donors.
